Co-Op CLOSING @ STANTONBURY SHOPS
We are all very concerned to hear the Co-Op store including the Post Office has said they will be closing on 12th September.
I am trying to make sure we keep a Food Store and Post Office on the site and to keep you all up to date with how things are going here is the copy of the letter I have received from Sainsbury's.
Dear Barbara
First, my sincere apologies for the delay in responding to you. I am sorry that I did not get in touch sooner.
I have been checking with Sainsbury's and we were not aware that the Co-op had formally decided to vacate its premises.
I understand that Sainsbury's and the Co-op's agent had been in discussions about extending the Co-op's lease and that Sainsbury's was awaiting the Co-op's final decision on the length of the required extension period. Therefore, their decision to vacate the premises whilst no firm plans for the regeneration of the centre was in place was unexpected.
To keep you updated, I am aware that Sainsbury's has been having an ongoing dialogue with all of the existing centre tenants regarding their continued occupancies.
Sainsbury's wants to ensure that there is a continued food shopping provision in place at the local centre. Given the unexpected decision by the Co-op, we need a little time to work up plans for a replacement offer and I will come back to you with an update on that as quickly as I can.
In the meantime, please do not hesitate to get in toch should you wish to discuss any aspect of this.
Yours sincerely
Marie Twomey
